Queen Mary II sails through the Atlantic Ocean

After a week of somewhat stormy preparations, the Queen Mary II vessel –the world’s biggest tourist liner- took Saturday on its maiden voyage across the Atlantic Ocean en route to Barbados in the Caribbean Basin.
This floating city of 345 meters long, 45 meter wide and 74 meters high is carrying over 2,600 passengers and 1,300 crew members. The huge ship made a call Friday in Tenerife (Canary Islands) before pointing its bow to the Caribbean.
French engineer Philippe Magaldi said the ship rose to the expectations during this weeklong trial period, though it didn’t sail too far given the wicked weather that’s been hitting most of the northern hemisphere these days.
