Punta Cana Airport in the Dominican Republic will open a new runway and air traffic control tower on Nov. 15. The runway and tower was funded by Grupo PuntaCana, the company that owns and operates PuntaCana Resort & Club as well as the airport.
The new runway supports an increase in flights gateways such as New York, Chicago, Miami, Paris, London, Moscow and Sao Paulo, according to Frank Rainieri, Grupo PuntaCana CEO. The airport is on track for a 10% increase in air passengers in 2011, Rainieri said.
