Puerto Rico Tourism Company Names Luis G. Rivera-Marin Executive Director
Luis G. Rivera-Marin joined the Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC) as executive director. Rivera-Marin was named to the post by Puerto Rico Gov. Luis Fortuno and confirmed at public hearings in March. Rivera-Marin assumes the post from the previous executive director, Mario Gonzalez-Lafuente. In his new position, Rivera-Marín will lead a public corporation with more than 500 employees and a budget of $100 million.
“My mission as executive director of PRTC is to provide continuity to the strategic plan geared towards the growth and development of the tourism industry,” said Rivera-Marín, “and to position Puerto Rico as the most vibrant and diverse travel destination in the Caribbean.”
Rivera-Marin was most recently secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs, a post he held since 2009. His prior experience includes tenures as attorney and notary representing financial, commercial and tourism industry institutions. Rivera-Marin has also worked in the private sector as a manager at Procter & Gamble.
Rivera-Marín is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts with a degree in economics and holds a master’s degree from New York University’s Leonard Stern Department of Economics and a Ph.D. in law from the University of Puerto Rico School of Law. He is a member of the Puerto Rico Public Notary Association.
