Peru opens flights with Brazil, Trinidad & Tobago

Beginning in November, Peru and Brazil will have charter flights to and from the Peruvian city of Cusco –the country’s premiere tourist destination- and Rio de Janeiro in a blitz intended to build a fire under the scarce tourist flow moving between both nations.

According to Raul Diez Canseco, Peru’s minister of foreign trade and tourism, now a flight between Brazil and Peru will be cheaper than one between Lima and the U.S, city of Miami.

“We’ve knit together the cities of Cusco and Rio, and we’re going to start flights in an unprecedented campaign due up next month using our own resources and with the participation of the Brazilian government. There’s no reason for Brazil to stare up at Europe and the U.S. when it should be peering over its shoulders at the land of the Incas and its many possibilities,” Mr. Canseco pointed out.

Caribbean News Digital has also learned that Trinidad & Tobago has hinted Peru about the possibility of beginning direct flights between both nations, said Brian Harry, chairman of the island nation’s Agency for the Promotion of Exports, Investments and Tourism.

Mr. Harry paid a recent visit to Lima heading an entourage of businesspeople. Before boarding his plane back to Trinidad, the high-ranking official stated that Peruvian company Aerocontinente is weighing the chances of opening this new route.

However, Mr. Harry indicated no official deadline for the new flights has been fixed yet because the parties should first clear the hurdle of pricey plane tickets.
