Peru: Next Stop of the Quetzal Trail

For a fourth year in a row, Peru will be home to the Quetzal Trail in a route that has already been named From the Cities of Kings to the Land of Basques.

The expedition will tee off in Pachacamac, some 18 miles south of Lima, running through the Andeans all the way up to La Orolla, at 4,800 meters high, and down to the mines of mercury, iron ore and gold of Huancavelica for a brief look at the history of Peru’s mining.

From there, trippers will head for Cuzco, the city of the Inca Kings, to delve into the history of this civilization and others, like the pre-Incas and Huaris. The voyage will end in the Amazonian Basin, with trekkers touring the mouth of the Lope de Aguirre River and Los Marañones.

In the same breath, the Spanish route –marking the 400th anniversary of Quixote in Castile-La Mancha- will wind up in Valladolid and the Basque region to study the history of mining in the city of Bilbao and a closing ceremony at the Guggenheim Museum.

This edition will observe the 20th anniversary of these expeditions and will be sponsored by the Continental-BBVA Bank.
