Peru Awarded as Best Off-the-Beaten-Track/Exotic Country Brand
Peru was chosen as Best Off-the-Beaten-Track/Exotic Country Brand, according to the 2006 Brand-Country index, prepared by the Future Brand consultancy firm and distributed in London.Australia was handpicked as Best Country Brand in general, followed by the United States and Italy. The Future Brand report also found that the trend to know the “scarce and limited” is rapidly increasing. The index identifies countries as brands, as well as the global travel tendencies which emerge from travel and tourism, the fastest growing economic sector around the globe. During twelve days, four publishers of English magazines and travel guides specialized in birdwatching traveled all over Peru by plane, boat, pickup truck and even on foot, looking for the endemic birds of the country and for the most exotic birds of Peru. During this year, around 7,500 tourists arrived in the native communities in order to participate in Ayahuasca ceremonies. Sixty percent came from the United States, 20 percent from Germany, 10 percent from Chile and Argentina, among other countries.
To that effect, a project called “Enhancement of Tourist, Mystic and Experiential Circuits in the Indigenous Communities of Yarinacocha and Nueva Betania” was submitted to the regional government in order to improve the infrastructure and complement the Ayahuasca ceremony, which is considered a form of art.
