Panama to Punish Online Child Porn Spreaders

Panama’s Congress has just passed a piece of legislation intended to throw the book, with sentences of up to ten years in prison, at those who spread child pornography on the Internet, act as client solicitors for prostitutes (pimps) and spread sexual tourism.

The new legislation –introduced by Congressman Jose Blandon of the ruling Arnulfista Party, and Congresswoman Olgalina de Quijada of the opposition Revolutionary Democratic Party, adds new regulations to the country’s Penal Code in an effort to prevent and nip those criminal activities right in the bud.

Both lawmakers explained in a press release that the new act complies with the commitments Panama has signed with an array of international bodies through treaties and agreements aimed at protecting the sexual rights of minors and teenagers.
