One More Tax Waiting for Passengers Departing from UK’s Airports

Passengers who depart from UK airports must pay the so-called “green tax” which came into force on February 1. This announcement had been made by Gordon Brown the Chancellor of Exchequer last December.

The tax increase will be from 11 pounds (17 euros) to 40 pounds (68 euros) and people who bought tickets before Chancellor’s announcement must pay the new rate. Many airlines have already contacted their passengers and kept the money from their credit cards. However, many arrived at the airports without having paid the tax.

EasyJet and Virgin Atlantic announced that they have asked their passengers top pay the tax from their online services while there are airports’ employees that receive the payment in the airports. The tax is worth 11 pounds or 17 euros for short flights in economy class and 40 pounds or 68 euros for long-haul flights in economy class.

The new tax implementation has caused many reactions. The British Air Transport Association announced that this tax will have negative implications in air transport while the Conservatives mentioned that the conversations in the House of Commons were inadequate
