Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Ambassador Albert Ramdin, has met here with Jamaica’s Tourism Minister, Edmund Bartlett, and United Nations World Tourism Organization Regional Director for the Americas, Carlos Vogeler.
The meeting, which took place at OAS headquarters in Washington DC on Tuesday, focused on ways to improve connectivity and regional cooperation in the area of tourism.
The three high-level officials all shared regional perspectives on the issue, recognizing that tourism plays a significant role in the hemisphere, not only from an economic perspective but through its social and political impact.
“Tourism has the potential to open doors that are sometimes traditionally closed in areas of politics and policy,” Ambassador Ramdin said.
The OAS official urged that “challenges, including airlift and visa restrictions should be addressed, so that citizens of the Americas can explore new opportunities to strengthen ties, in the face of global challenges.”
