North American Airlines Calls Off Guyana Routes

US airline North American Airlines has announced it is suspending flights between the United States and the cities of Lagos in Nigeria, Accra in Ghana and Georgetown in Guyana from May 20.

In a statement issued in Lagos, chief commercial and planning officer Rob Binns said fuel costs had increased 60 percent since it began routes to Africa in 2005 and the market was now “untenable”. The company was founded in 1989 and operates a fleet of ten passenger planes.
