New Vice-Chair for the Caribbean Alliance of Sustainable Tourism

Loreto Duffy-Mayers, Director of Environmental Programs for Almond Resorts in Barbados, has been elected Vice-Chair of the Governing Council of the Caribbean Alliance for Sustainable Tourism (CAST).

Mrs. Loreto was born in Dublin, Ireland and moved to Barbados in 1985. She was educated at University College Dublin where she completed a degree in Economics, Geography and Mathematics and a higher Diploma in Education.

She also pursued a Diploma in Marketing at the UK Institute of Marketing. She first became involved in the environmental arena in Barbados in 1994 while working for Women in Development –an agency responsible for assisting women to set up their own businesses.

Since her move to the Casuarina Beach Club, the hotel won several Global awards including the 2004 World Legacy Award sponsored by National Geographic Traveler Magazine and Conservation International, the 2004 Responsibletravel.com award at WTM in London, and most recently, the 2005 WTTC Tourism for Tomorrow award in Delhi, India.
