New Natural Site Becomes Top Tourist Attraction in Nicaragua

The Somoto Canyon, a geological formation discovered by a team of Czech and Nicaraguan scientists last December, is increasingly attracting more and more national and foreign visitors to the Central American country.

For geology mavens and tourism authorities alike, this new discovery promises to become one of the most sought-after choices in the province of Madriz, in northern Nicaragua.

Alba Alejandra Roque, a delegate of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources to Madriz, agrees and admits to be upbeat that the Somoto Canyon will do its own for the sake of the local travel industry.

The scientists who unearthed this awesome place claim the geological formation is somewhere between 5 and 13 million years old and ranks as one of the most spectacular canyons ever seen.
