Brazil´s VARIG airline called off nearly 50 national and international flights between June 10 and 12, and more travel disruptions are likely in the coming days.

Although financial woes are likely to blame, airline officials cited poor weather conditions and equipment failure for the cancellations.

Among the affected flights were several heavily-booked journeys between Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The airline, which has been experiencing a financial crisis for some time has previously been forced to cancel flights (most recently in April).

VARIG is currently being sold by auction, but a minimum bid has yet to be submitted.
