Moorings to Expand BVI Base of Operations

The Moorings, a yacht charter company with headquarters in Clearwater, Fla., launched a $10 million expansion at its flagship operations base in Road Town, Tortola, part of the British Virgin Islands.

When completed, in the first quarter of 2008, the new Moorings village will be located on the southern end of the current property, which is being extended.

Facilities at the village will include a customer reception area and lounge with Wi-Fi service, a briefing area, a bath house with solar-heated showers and spa facilities, a gazebo bar and restaurant, a conference area, new oceanfront hotel suites and retail shops.

In addition, a new breakwater is being built to provide additional slip space for 120 yachts and a waterfront area on the main harbor.

“The Moorings is proud to unveil this project, which will be the newest and most environmentally-friendly charter facility in the Caribbean and is at the forefront of modern marina design,” said Lex Raas, president.

Peter Cochran, vice president of operations, said that the new facility “will serve to set the bar at a higher level for all charter operations in the world.”
