Montserrat Touts Proximity to Cricket Fans Looking for a Place to Stay

As preparations reach a feverish pitch for the upcoming International Cricket Council's Cricket World Cup 2007 event on nine Caribbean islands from March 5 through April 28, even those destinations not hosting a game are caught up in the frenzy.

Although estimates vary as to the number of cricket fans from the region and from abroad who will attend, officials warn that accommodations will be in short supply for those who do show up without a firm room reservation.

While Montserrat is not hosting any of the games, its location places it in proximity to several of the islands that are hosting cricket matches.

Group A matches between Australia, South Africa, Scotland and the Netherlands will be held from March 13 to 25 in St. Kitts, a 30-minute flight from Montserrat. Antigua, 15 minutes away by air, will host the second stage Super 8 matches from March 27 to April 8.

The Montserrat Tourist Board has seized upon cricket fever as an opportunity to boost its tourism by touting the ease of commuting between cricket islands.
