Montserrat Pumps Up Airlift

Air company Winair announced last week it plans to soup up its service between Antigua and Montserrat from four to six flights a day. The move was largely aimed at allowing easier access for American and European visitors over the peak tourism season.

Air service to Montserrat resumed in July after a 10-year break due to the eruption of the Soufriere Hills Volcano in 1995, which devastated the island´s W.H. Bramble Airport.

Increased flights out of Antigua allow passengers from Europe and America to get to Montserrat without an overnight stopover, which is a far more attractive option.

Passengers now arrive into the Gerald´s Airport on the island´s northeastern coast. The flight takes approx. 20 minutes.

There will be an evaluation of the flights success in the next two weeks to see if the flight should be implemented full-time.
