Montego Bay´s Chamber of Commerce Leading Local Cleanup Effort

The Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce is leading a cleanup campaign in the city this week as a prelude to a larger plan to market the second tourism capital as an ideal investor´s choice.

The campaign started with a press launch at the city´s civic centre on July 8, under the theme, “Mo Bay: Cleaner, Friendlier”.

“It´s not just about cleaning up, it´s a campaign that we will be using to rebuild that sense of civic pride in our citizens,” said Pauline Reid, the chamber´s president.

Additionally, the chamber has announced plans to establish a business incubator at its offices at Overton Plaza on Union Street. “It will be fully staffed and we will be providing all the necessary services. It is really geared at our small-to-medium-sized businesses,” said Reid.

The chamber, she added, would be working with the Jamaica Business Development Company, which would provide the expertise for the business incubator.

Mrs. Reid said, too, that the chamber was still lobbying for a convention centre in the city to cash in on the lucrative business opportunities that exist in that area.
