Mexico screens out 390 child pornography dot-coms

A police squad specialized in cyber crimes –from Mexico’s Federal Preventive Police Department- unplugged 390 Internet sites that used to deal with child pornography, El Universal newspaper informed this week.

Over half of those websites (197) were uploaded from Mexico City. In addition, law enforcement officers also confiscated seven sites urging people to commit cyber-related terrorist acts, the daily explained.

Mexican cyber cops nabbed nearly two dozen people linked to the distribution of child pornography materials, sexual tourism and smuggling of minors through a number of operations on the Web.

In line with a recent study conducted by the Family Integrated Development System and the United Nations International Children’s Fund (UNICEF), as many as 16,000 cases of child prostitution were detected in Mexico over the last nine months.

At least ten million minors are subjected to sexual abuses or forced to prostitute themselves every year around the world in a criminal business that yields no less than $7 billion worth of revenues, Latin American experts held in Mexico last August pointed out.
