Mexico, Costa Rica, Chile and Argentina attend tourism fair in Ecuador
Representatives of Mexico, Costa Rica, Chile and Argentina took part in the First International Tourism Fair held this past weekend in the city of Riobamba in central Ecuador.
“This is a showcase of the handicraft, the natural and cultural wealth of the province of Chimborazo which is making a great contribution to the promotion of our country in its regional diversity,” said Doris Solis, Ecuador’s tourism minister.
Mrs. Solis pointed out tourism is her country’s third source of income, trailing only to the oil industry and bananas, and chipping in $600 million worth of revenues every year.
She recognized that nearly 60 percent of visitors coming to Ecuador year in and year out goes to the Galapagos Islands –some 625 miles off the Ecuadorian shores- as well as to Quito, the nation’s capital, and Guayaquil, the country’s commercial hub.
The Ecuadorian Minister insisted the national government’s objective is to double the number of incoming travelers in the next four years.
Chimborazo’s Nevado, the natural reserve, the lagoons, the train ride, the city of Riobamba and other locations are some of Chimorazo’s top tourist attractions.
