Mexico´s Travel Industry Engages in Unfair Competition with Unregistered Hotels

During the past Holy Week festivities, the Mexican hotel sector was bound to put up with the unfair competition staged by unregistered lodgings that keep popping up in each and every travel destination across the Aztec nation.

Nearly one out of two establishments in Mexico fall in the category of informal hotels. These facilities are usually charged with tax evasion and are costing the federal government some $2 billion every year, the Mexican Hotel and Motel Association (AMHM) reported this week.

This situation is hurting registered hotels and resorts whose owners are well aware of the damages and believe a solution to the problem brooks no further delay.

Mexico´s travel destinations of Acapulco, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Cuernavaca, Puerto Vallarta, Cancun, Huatulco, Los Cabos, Puerto Peñasco, Manzanillo, Mazatlan and Rincon de Guayabitos are some of the travel destinations that face serious troubles in this sense.
