Mexicana de Aviacion to Fly to Cuba`s Varadero

Mexicana de Aviacion will soon make flights from Mexico City to the international airport of world-class Varadero Beach, Cuba´s premier sun-and-sand destination in the province of Matanzas.

According to Armando Gonzalez, the Havana-based regional manager for the Mexican airline, his company brought some 83,000 passengers to Cuba aboard 385 round-trip flights all through 2003.

For the ongoing year -Mr. Gonzalez went on to explain- the carrier expect to fly a grand total of 45,000 travelers in the first half alone, up 3 percent from the previous six-month period.

Mr. Gonzalez noted that the jetliners covering the route between Mexico´s Federal District and the Cuban capital will be 150-seat Airbus 320s and a couple of Airbus 318s for 100 passengers each, thus comprising 85 percent of Mexicana´s flights to Cuba and keeping operational costs well under wraps.
