Mexican Tourism Official Visited El Salvador

Mexico’s Tourism Undersecretary Francisco Madrid paid a two-day visit to El Salvador where he met with officials and businesspeople from the Central American nation, including Salvadoran Minister of Industry Luis Cardenal, to share views on the development of the leisure sector in the region.

The visit also served to talk about Mexico’s experiences on tourism development, an industry that now ranks third on the list of the country’s top sources of hard-currency income and has made significant social and economic progress in the 170 Mexican municipalities harboring tourist facilities nationwide.

Mr. Madrid pointed out that “Mexico has had the opportunity of turning tourism into the cornerstone of its economy. We’ve seen that our efforts have certainly paid off and it seems to me that we’ve been able to pave our own way in the development of formerly poor regions inside the country.”

Mr. Madrid also huddled with officials from the Central American Integration System and member of El Salvador’s private sector.

Undersecretary Madrid vowed that Mexico is seeking more efficient bilateral cooperation mechanisms with El Salvador as far as tourism is concerned, in addition to the tools that both countries share within the framework of the Mayan World Project and Puebla-Panama Plan.
