Mexican Authorities Launch Crusade Against Crime in Cancun

Quintana Roo Governor Felix Gonzalez announced this week the beginning of an aggressive onslaught aimed at thwarting violent gangs that are playing havoc with some of the country´s premier Caribbean destinations, like Cancun.

Mr. Gonzalez huddled recently with U.S. Ambassador to Mexico, Tony Garza, in an effort to persuade American authorities not to issue travel warnings that might eventually blemish Cancun´s glitzy image.

Gov. Gonzalez agreed to take tougher actions to beef up security in the Caribbean-bathed destinations and implement surveillance systems around the hotel areas in order to clinch tourists´ safety.

”The main commitment here is to nip crime and violence right in the bud and make both residents and visitors win back confidence in the destination,” Gov. Gonzalez commented.

The law-enforcement endeavor envisages the deployment of 160 police officers that are supposed to be on the beat around major hotel and resort areas.
