Martinique Tourism Unscathed by 7.4 Magnitude Earthquake

The Martinique Promotion Bureau/CMT U.S.A. reported that the island's tourism infrastructure emerged unscathed following a 7.4 magnitude earthquake Friday, which according to the U.S. Geological Survey struck 90 miles deep in the ocean floor 13 miles northwest of Martinique at 3:00 pm EST. Wire Service reports indicated several buildings had been damaged on the island.

Martinique Aimire International Airport is open and operating normally, while reports from several resorts, including the Cap Est Lagoon Resort & Spa, Club Med Buccaneer's Creek, Sofitel Bakoua and the Bateli Hotel indicate no damages.

Government authorities are working swiftly to clean up debris and restore full electrical and telephone service. Communication with the island is possible via cell phones.
