Machado Ventura Visits Works Underway to Celebrate Santiago de Cuba’s 500th Anniversary
The Vice president of the Councils of State and Ministers, José Ramón Machado Ventura, visited some of the constructive works that are being carried out at the Hero City in anticipation of the festivities for the 500th anniversary of the foundation of the Caribbean village.

The Second Secretary of the Central Committee of Cuba’s Communist Party was interested in the construction of the new Patria Avenue, an important artery that connects the Central Road with Santa Ifigenia Cemetery. The 2.7- kilometer-long avenue meets sections of Yarayó and Crombet roads.
Accompanied by the top political authorities of the territory, Machado checked the building of houses bordering the avenue, as well as the public spaces such as the park located at the intersection of Patria Avenue and Patricio Lumumba and other service facilities along the road.
Afterwards, Machado Ventura visited the Alameda where he asked about the projects that are being developed by the City Curator’s Office in this area that is planned to become one of the main tourism and leisure attractions in the city.
The visit included the foundational area of the city where several premises of great cultural and architectural value are being reconstructed.
Machado Ventura finally went to Ferreiro open area where a state-of-the-art cultural complex will feature different spaces dedicated to the culture.
“These are art galleries that are going to be managed by Santiago-based artists.”
“While visitors enjoy an art display, music and other cultural options, they will also have the opportunity to taste gastronomic offers”, Lázaro Expósito Canto told Machado Ventura.
The Cuban Vice president praised the actions that are being undertaken to celebrated half-a-millennium with a more beautiful and functional city.
