Layoffs in Caribbean airlines

Caribbean’s major airlines are being pushed to take radical actions aimed at offsetting heavy losses occurred in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Trinidad’s BWIA is reportedly laying off pilots, shutting down its hub on the island and streamlining its fleet. Air Jamaica is hoping to get a bailout from the government to hedge a revenue deficit in the neighborhood of $70 million.
