Lauda Air and Continental Airline Are Expanding Service to Guatemala

Italian carrier Lauda Air has just commenced nonstop flights to Guatemala this very week with a maiden takeoff from Milan all the way to La Aurora International Airport in Guatemala City.

These nonstop flights will leave Milan every Thursday and tourism authorities in both nations hope the outflow of visitors from the European country could reach new record highs in the near future.

Lauda Air is the third international airline to initiate routes to Guatemala in recent months, following in the footsteps of Iberia and Willy Kaltschmitt, two companies that started operations in the Central American nation on October 2 and February 13, respectively.

Meanwhile, Continental Airlines will start new nonstop service between Houston´s George Bush Intercontinental Airport and Tikal/Flores, Guatemala, beginning June 18, pending government approval.

Continental will offer twice-weekly service to Flores on Wednesdays and Saturdays, using the 50-seat Embraer EMB-145 Regional Jet. Flores is the primary destination for travelers visiting Tikal, the largest site of Mayan ruins in Central America.
