LAN Chile´s Traffic Kept on Growing in June

Chilean LAN Airline, one of the main South American passenger and cargo carriers, scored a major spike in passenger-per-mile ratio and aircraft occupation last June.

According to a LAN press release, the passenger-per-mile index surged 18.7 percent, while aircraft capacity was up 14.5 percent, with the occupation rate increased two points to 69.5 percent.

Europe and South Pacific, coupled with the development of Latin American routes and domestic traffic in Peru, also helped boost activity in June.

However, in the Chilean domestic market the passenger-per-mile index shrank 2.3 percent, capacity dipped 1.9 percent and the occupation factor slid to 59.8 percent. The company explains the difference arguing it´s the result of the new itineraries.

Cargo traffic in June surged 1.8 percent and capacity hiked to 10.4 percent, resulting in a 5.5 drop in the occupation index to 65.5 percent. A lesser demand from Latin American markets influenced June results, the LAN press release points out.

As to punctuality, LAN Chile keeps a good record with 81.7 percent of all flights leaving on time, even when it represents a slight 1.6 percent drop from June 2004.
