LAN Becomes First Carrier to Fly to Off-the-Beaten-Path Island in Southern Chile

LAN Airlines launched service to Chiloe Island, becoming the first carrier to operate to the southern island in Chile. The inaugural flight departed from Santiago at 11:25 a.m. and, after a quick stop over in Puerto Montt, landed at the Mocopulli Airport in Dalcahue at 3 p.m.

Once at the island, LAN executives and authorities celebrated the new route, in a ceremony lead by LAN CEO for Chile, Enrique Elsaca, who stressed the importance of this new flight for the Company.

LAN will operate commercially with four weekly flights from Santiago via Puerto Montt on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturday and Sunday. The flight time from Puerto Montt to Mocopulli Airport is about 35 minutes.

Flights will be operated with a modern fleet of Airbus A320 aircrafts, which have reduced noise levels and lower CO2 emissions thanks to their fuel efficiency.
