JetBlue Employees Busted for ID Theft
Four employees of popular low-cost carrier JetBlue have been arrested in New York on identity theft and credit card fraud charges. Investigators said three customer service agents and one flight attendant for the U.S. budget carrier, along with a New York City corrections officer, have been arrested.
The investigation of the five individuals, who have been working as a group, was triggered by a complaint from a JetBlue customer. The customer said he accidentally left his credit card behind at JetBlue’s JFK International Airport counter while rushing to catch his flight. According to the District-Attorney’s office in Manhattan, he has discovered later that over $500 had been charged on his card in various New York locations.
According to published reports, the JetBlue customer was neither the first nor the only victim of the scammers. The five individuals have been using stolen credit cards for shopping sprees at Bloomingdale’s, various restaurants, bars and liquor stores.
All five have been charged with stealing credit card numbers from several airline passengers and were arraigned in Manhattan last week on identity theft charges.
