JetBlue to Add Samana in the Dominican Republic by November

JetBlue Airways, stepping up its competition with American Airlines in the Caribbean, said it is expanding service to its sixth destination in the Dominican Republic with the addition of Samana, subject to receipt of government approval. Effective Nov. 14, 2012, JetBlue will launch twice weekly flights between New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and El Catey International Airport (AZS), on Wednesdays and Saturdays, the only service between the United States and this emerging tourist destination.

Flights are on sale now for as low as $169 one way from JFK to Samana through July 13, 2012 at www.jetblue.com/new for travel between Nov. 14 and Feb. 9, 2013. Blackout dates apply.

"Samana is one of the best kept secrets in the Dominican Republic, and one that offers great potential,” said John Checketts, director of network planning for JetBlue. “With its tropical forest and beach combination, we believe this undiscovered paradise will be a pleasant surprise for many of our customers. JetBlue's proposed schedule would feature 8:25 a.m. departures from JFK arriving in AZS at 1:05 p.m. The return flight would depart AZS at 2 p.m. and arrive at 4:50 p.m. Flights would operate on Wednesdays and Saturdays effective Nov. 14. In the Dominican Republic, JetBlue also serves La Romana, Puerto Plata, Punta Cana, Santiago and Santo Domingo with service to Boston, Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood, New York, Orlando and San Juan. JetBlue's service to Samana will operate with the airline's fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft.
