Jamaica Work Action Causes Missed Flights, Delays at Sangster Airport

Departing and arriving travelers at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, Jamaica, faced long immigration lines, and hundreds missed flights and connections in the wake of a job action by the airport’s immigration officers last week, according to reports from Jamaica.

The “go slow” action by immigration workers was sparked by a dispute between the immigration office and a manager at a separate airline company, according to the Jamaica Gleaner newspaper, and was in its sixth day.

Two travelers reportedly fainted as travelers endured hours-long waits on immigration lines. Several Continental Airlines passengers missed flights to Houston due to the delays, according to a Continental manager at Sangster. There was no word on whether the issues leading to the job action were resolved.
