Jamaica Sets Record with 20,695 Weekend Tourist Arrivals
Continuing its strong early 2011 tourist numbers, Jamaica set a record for most overnight tourist arrivals in a single weekend, with 20,695 vacationers arriving at Sangster International Airport between Feb. 18 and 20, according to local press reports. The weekend total exceeded by 7,490 the largest number of tourists recorded in any previous weekend.
On Saturday, 9,798 visitors were processed by immigration officers, the largest number of tourists to arrive at Sangster on any single day, said Edmund Bartlett, tourism minister. The heavy arrivals resulted in some delays and long lines.
