Jamaica Bolsters Security in Resort Areas

In an effort to stamp out visitor harassment, Jamaica’s Ministry of Tourism launched the Tourism Courtesy Corps (TCC). The TCC is a group of 120 uniformed members that will work in resort areas alongside security forces to help ensure the safety and comfort of visitors.

TCC personnel already are based in Montego Bay. Other TCC members will be deployed in Negril, Ocho Rios, Port Antonio and Kingston. They have the authority to detain but not arrest.

The training program included lectures on Jamaica’s geography, history and culture; visitor relationships; and anger management. Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett described the TCC as a “softer, more acceptable, more congenial, more friendly and more hospitable approach to safety and security.”
