Jamaica’s Half Moon Nabs Green Globe Benchmarking Certification

Half Moon, a flagship Jamaican hotel, recently earned the Green Globe Benchmark Certificate and is now well on its way to being Green Globe Certified, an internationally recognized award for environmental excellence.

The Green Globe Benchmark program has several criteria that the resort passed before receiving Benchmarked status. The criteria included waste water recycling, paper recycling and community involvement as well as having a comprehensive and sustainable environmental policy for which the resort rated very highly.

For its use of energy saving light bulbs, water saving toilets and showerheads, the towel reuse program, state-of-the-art waste water treatment plant and other environmentally friendly initiatives, Half Moon was Green Globe Benchmarked.

Additionally, the resort practices a policy of self sufficiency and aggressive recycling, such as making its own furniture and using the scraps for horse bedding at the Equestrian Center. Material left over from the on-site upholstery shop is also used to make dolls for the Anancy Children’s Village.

Half Moon has a vibrant environmental program that includes mentoring programs with local schools, a stringent waste management policy as well as a community outreach program. The resort remains committed to the preservation and sustainability of the environment.
