Island Outpost Owner Sketches Out New Development in Jamaica

A new residential and resort development near Oracabessa on Jamaica’s north shore is planned by Chris Blackwell, the entertainment entrepreneur and music producer who founded Island Records and Palm Pictures.

Blackwell also is the owner of the Island Outpost boutique properties, which include Goldeneye, Jake’s, Strawberry Hill and the Caves in Jamaica, and Pink Sands and Compass Point in the Bahamas.

The new project, which will be called Goldeneye after the hideaway (now an Island Outpost property) built by author Ian Fleming in 1946 who wrote his 13 James Bond novels there, will include an eclectic mix of 80 homes ranging in size from one-bedroom cottages to treetop huts and four-bedroom villas with prices from $700,000 to $3.5 million each.

The homes will be placed in a rental program managed by Island Outpost. At the heart of the Goldeneye project will be a new Thalassotherapy Spa, described as a seaside, seawater sanctuary by the project’s architects.

Work is scheduled to begin later this year with the first phases completed by next winter and the second and final construction phase done by the winter of 2008.
