Iberia to Double Havana-bound Plane Seats with Huge Boeing 747/400 Jetliners

Spain-based airline Iberia is expected to add twice as many plane seats on its flights from Madrid to Havana beginning on June 28 by replacing 249-passenger Airbus A340/300 with 430-seat Boeing 747/400 aircraft, Spanish travel publication Hosteltur reported this week.

The air company´s decision comes on the heels of the good numbers this route has been putting on the board lately, with occupancy way over 90 percent and great expectations to see the amount of passengers accrue in the ongoing summertime season.

“The use of bigger planes for our Havana-bound flights from June 28 on is a proof that demand for this route is on the rise. At least, that demand has remained kind of similar to last year´s levels during the first months of 2004,” an Iberia´s spokesperson was quoted as saying in Hosteltur.

Occupancy is another indicator that shows how good the Madrid-Havana route has been faring, with a more-than-acceptable 85 percent in the month of February alone.
