Hyatt Regency Unveils Design of its Trinidad Hotel

Hyatt Regency Trinidad, a high-rise five-star hotel to be constructed at the Port of Spain International Waterfront Development along the waterfront of Trinidad and Tobago´s capital city, will be a premier destination for business travelers and convention goers when completed in late 2007.

Thompson, Ventulett, Stainback and Associates, an Atlanta-based architecture, interior design and urban planning firm, is designing the 428-room hotel, part of a new eight-acre mixed-used development along the waterfront in Port of Spain.

Culpepper, McAuliffe and Meaders, Inc. (CMMI), an award-winning Atlanta-based design firm, is providing interior design services for the hotel, which includes a 16,000-square-foot Grand Ballroom, a 10,000 square-foot multipurpose facility, one full-service restaurant, a lobby bar and lounge, and a 6,000 square-foot spa and fitness center. A serene rooftop pool and terrace will provide a relaxing escape for business travelers.

The interior design, tightly integrated with the hotel´s architecture, brings a strong sense of interplay between interior and exterior spaces, allowing guests to enjoy the climate and character of the island, known for its oil and natural gas.

Guestrooms feature a fuchsia accent wall, bamboo floors and an open bathroom, with an all-glass shower next to the bedroom area. A blackout drapery between the two areas offers privacy for guests.

Other distinctive design features include native bamboo screens that provide views to the open kitchen from the restaurant and lobby areas, a combination of materials, colors and lighting fixtures within the open ballroom ceiling, while colors of brilliant red, fuchsia, green, ochre, blue and green relate to the island palette.

Hyatt Regency Trinidad will be part of the first phase of an extensive mixed-use, multi-year development project. The Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (UDeCOTT), Trinidad´s leading public developer, will own the hotel and all elements of the mixed development. Internationally acclaimed Bouygues Construction, headquartered in Paris, is the design-builder firm for the project.
