Hurricane-stricken Hotel Reopens in Cuba

Cuba’s Bucanero Gran Caribe Hotel, a tourist resort severely damaged by hurricane Ivan last September, is back in business after enduring an all-out refurbishment of all affected areas.

The remodeling comprised the 100-seat restaurant, the swimming pool and poolside areas, the gym, the massage hall, the snack bar, the game arcade, the children’s amusement park and the sport courts.

According to Idia Perez, head of marketing and sales, reconstruction works on the seawall and debris-removing efforts along the beach are still underway.

After a 54-day lockdown forced by hurricane Ivan’s gusting winds, the hotel is now more intimate and good-looking than ever before, ready to assimilate twice as many foreign vacationers in the now fledgling high-peak season.

Hurricane Ivan skirted the southern border of eastern Cuba last September and left over half a million dollars worth of losses in the Bucanero Hotel alone. Fortunately, the tropical storm claimed no human lives thanks to effective actions taken by the establishment’s personnel to protect both tourists and employees.
