Hundreds Evacuated as Volcano Erupts on Capre Verde Island
On the Cape Verde island of Fogo a volcano has erupted, leading to the evacuation of hundreds of residents and the closure of the local airport.
A mammoth plume of smoke, which was visible from a neighboring island, started to spiral upwards from the Pico do Fogo volcano on Sunday.
Seismologists have said they think this eruption was bigger than the last one, which occurred in 1995.
The Cape Verde archipelago, which lies off the coast of West Africa, consists of 10 volcanic islands, eight of which are fairly inhabited.
