A welcome change from news of mega resorts breaking ground is the recent opening of a small, all-inclusive boutique resort on the western coast of Antigua.

Hermitage Bay offers 25 private cottage suites tucked into a small bay about 35 minutes from the airport and a 10-minute drive from the Jolly Harbor marina complex. Eight of the cottages open onto the beach; the remaining 17 are hillside units, each with a plunge pool.

Each unit is air conditioned with separate living and sleeping areas, a full deck, a full bath and an outdoor garden shower. In-room amenities include an LCD-display TV, a DVD player, an iPod docking station and Internet access.

Facilities at the resort feature a restaurant, a spa and the services of “room ambassadors,” who perform concierge-type services for guests. Wedding and honeymoon packages are offered.
