Havana’s Historian Office grabs prestigious Spanish award

The Association for Urban Centers Management (AGECU) based in Valencia, Spain, as agreed upon by its board of directors, has recently awarded Havana’s Historian Office with the Prize 2002 in the category of Latin American Initiative.

The Old Havana Restoration Project was acknowledged by the association as “a continuous process committed to the preservation of the history this place comprises... This is one of the richest historical centers in the Americas whose looks have shook up dramatically since 1994.”

In that span of time –the board of director’s agreement goes on to state- the Historian Office “has combined theory and practice to reach consensus and hand down a valid heritage to future generations, as well as to develop the idea that historical heritages can generate profits.”

AGECU also singled out the Historian Office’s solid social and community underpinnings as seen in the work done in that Cuban urban space.

Founded back in 1999 as a non-profitable organization, AGECU is made up of professionals whose work is committed to cities’ urban and commercial management, especially in their historical cores. The association grants annual awards in four different categories: European Initiative, National Initiative, Cultural-Artistic Initiative and Latin American Initiative. The latter awarded this time around to the toilsome work conducted by Havana’s Historian Office.
