Guatemala Tourism Board Names Jorge Samayoa Director

The Guatemala Tourism Board (INGUAT) named Dr. Jorge Samayoa director, replacing Roberto Robles, who resigned the position in November. Samayoa brings 10 years of experience as a tourism industry leader in Guatemala to his new position.

Most recently, he headed tourism planning boards responsible for the development of sustainable tourism products across Guatemala. In 2009, he represented ANAM, the National Board of Guatemalan Municipalities, in Guatemala’s tourism commission.

Samayoa has also focused on tourism security and has been an advisor to the Board of Guatemalan Hotel Security from 2003 to 2010, and directed Guatemala’s Cinturón de Seguridad Hotelero initiative, which seeks ways to improve security in Guatemalan hotels.

A medical doctor and surgeon by trade, Samayoa completed his studies at Guatemala’s San Carlos University. Samayoa will implement “current and new promotional strategies” for Guatemala’s tourism industry, with the aim of reaching two million annual tourist arrivals by the end of 2010, according to an INGUAT statement.
