Guatemala Signs Security Agreement on Tourist Zone

Guatemalan authorities from the city of Antigua and the country’s Tourism Institute (INGUAT) inked an agreement to beef up security in this particular area, one of its premier destinations for travelers visiting the nation.

The plan that eases the financing of the entire operation through funds provided by the Municipal Tourism Police will be fully enforced during the upcoming Holy Week. The project was signed by Antigua Mayor Cesar Silieza and INGUAT Chief Roberto Sinibaldi.

The colonial city of Antigua is one of Guatemala’s top tourist attractions, especially since UNESCO declared it Heritage of Mankind back in 1979.

Mr. Sinibaldi said that over two thirds of visitors coming to the country each year include a grand tour to the colonial city during their stays.
