Grenadian Travel Agent Calls Air Jamaica Announcement “Deceiving”

A travel agent has lashed out at a report by the Grenadian government claiming that Air Jamaica will be increasing flights to Grenada saying it is a bit deceiving.

“The booking system available worldwide shows that there is no additional flights to Grenada, what is there is that Air Jamaica is putting on an additional flight in November out of Montego Bay to Miami and Grenadians will have the opportunity to connect to this flight,” said owner of Astral Travel, Siddiqui Sylvester. “I think there was a bit of deception when making the announcement.”

Last week, Air Jamaica Sales vice president George DeMercado announced that there will be a four day schedule between Grenada and Miami using the Montego hub from November 4, 2007. That route currently involves stopovers at Montego Bay, Kingston and Fort Lauderdale.

Mr. DeMercado also announced that the airline is increasing its service between New York and St. George’s for the upcoming winter season. “We are very pleased to announce that Grenada will be getting a four-day service to Miami through the Montego Bay,” he said.

The new arrangement for Grenada by Air Jamaica was agreed on after meeting between the airline officials and Grenada Airlift Committee, whose role and responsibility is to negotiate with airlines as a means of boosting the tourism sector.
