Green Globe Stamps Mark on Grenada’s Blue Horizons Resort

Grenada’s 32-room Blue Horizons Garden Resort grabbed the Green Globe Benchmark Certificate under the new Green Globe Certification program for environmental standards. The resort now can proceed to the next step, which is obtaining the certification itself.

Blue Horizons first obtained the Green Globe Benchmark distinction in 2004 but it expired when the property was closed as a result of Hurricane Ivan.

During the $1.5 million renovation that followed, the resort followed strict environmental practices with an eye toward attaining the Green Globe Certification again.

Examples of environmental practices instituted at Blue Horizons that paved the way for the benchmark status include:

In recent years, the resort has managed to create an organic composting heap, install

solar water heating systems and introduced water-saving shower heads and toilets in all the rooms.

The use of energy-saving air conditioners in the rooms and insulation on the roofs to reduce heat, as well as the use of energy-saving light bulbs and environmentally-friendly housekeeping chemicals have helped the Grenadian resort nab the Green Globe certificate.
