Green Globe Certifies Chepu Adventures Eco Lodge in Chile
Green Globe announced certification of the Chepu Adventures Eco Lodge, located at Chepu, Chiloe Island, Insular Patagonia, in the south of Chile. Since its opening in 2004, Chepu Adventures has become a leading company promoting the knowledge and protection of nature through low-impact living and outdoor activities.
Chepu Adventures has taken a proactive role in preserving and protecting nature in all its forms, and has demonstrated outstanding environmental practices on all levels.
A long-term Sustainability Management System is in effect at Chepu Adventures Eco Lodge, and the property is 100% self-sustainable. Energy is provided by solar panels and wind generators, and solar water heaters are installed. Roofs are being used as rain-collectors, and water facilities include a well and large water tanks.
Waste is being kept to a minimum, and sorting actions have been implemented: organics go to compost; paper is burnt in the only fire stove at the property; and bottles, metal, and plastics are given to a recycling facility in Ancud.
Guests are invited to learn about Chiloe traditions and local mythology, or join community-related volunteer work, promoting awareness. Chepu Adventures offers a number of eco-friendly activities, such as kayaking; trekking; and mammal and bird watching.
Chepu Adventures Eco Lodge is located at Chepu, Chiloe Island, at the southern tip of Chile.
