G Adventures is offering five Haiti departures in 2015, five years after a devastating earthquake ravaged the country.

In 2013, the small-group adventure tour operator was approached by the Inter-American Development Bank to assess Haiti's tourism potential.

"We weren't sure what we would find when we arrived, but we discovered a country full of friendly people looking to move on, world-class art and sculpture, history, nature and beaches," said Jeff Russill, vice president of innovation at G Adventures.

G Adventures' 10-day Highlights of Haiti escorted tour, priced from $2,499 per person (not including air to and from Haiti), is available for booking now. The first departure is in February.

"There's a real curiosity about traveling to Haiti; it's a place to be explored, and adventure travel is the perfect way to see it. While travelers will visit the beach, Haiti is not a fly-and-flop destination," Russill said.

Travelers will meet a voodoo priest, learn about rum at a local distillery, make the local kassav flat bread, shop for artifacts at the Iron Market in Port-au-Prince, visit an establishment that helps at-risk youth learn artistic skills, cliff dive and swim at the Bassin-Bleu pools, and explore the Mari-Jeanne cave.
