Foreign Tourists Fall Prey of Crime in Rio de Janeiro

A Chilean tourist identified as Tatiana Miranda, 27, was victim this week of rampant crime in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro.

Miranda was shot in the right shoulder during a shooting in Ipanema, the icon of Brazil’s tourism put on the map by Vinicius de Moraes’ poem “Ipanema Girl” that was later on set to music by Antonio Carlos Jobim.

According to O Globo, the Chilean tourist was hit by a stray bullet fired by an armed man on a bicycle who tried to assault the driver of a passing car. The man in the car fired back with a gun of his own and the two engaged in a drive-by shootout.
