Fire Closes Building at St. Thomas Resort

Fire destroyed several units at the 171-suite Sapphire Beach Resort & Marina in St. Thomas on July 20. No guests were injured and firefighters got the blaze under control in minutes.

The fire started in a closet housing the resort’s cable and telephone systems on the second floor of one of the resort’s buildings. The entire three-story, 27-unit building has been shut down for repairs from smoke and water damage.

Guests in that building were accommodated in other buildings on the property, according to Angela Callwood, resort manager.
